The Weight We Hope Someone Sees

Some of us learned early that asking for help came with strings.
Guilt. Shame. Or the quiet shift in someone’s face when you admit you’re not okay.
So we stopped asking.
We tell ourselves not to bother anyone. That everyone’s already carrying something heavy.
That we can handle it alone — even if we’re slowly unraveling.
But here's the truth we rarely say out loud:
We do want help.
We just don’t want to feel like a burden for needing it.
So instead, we wait.
We drop subtle hints in conversations.
We sigh a little louder.
We hope someone notices the way our replies shrink,
or the way we disappear for a while.
But hoping someone sees what we can’t say isn’t always enough.
And staying silent doesn’t make the weight lighter — it just makes it lonelier.
There’s nothing weak about needing support.
There’s nothing shameful about being seen.
We are not too much.
We are not a burden.
We are people trying.
And while it might still feel terrifying to say, “I need help,”
this space — this note — is a start.
A place to admit the truth,
even if it’s just to yourself.
From someone who’s still learning how to speak the hard things
Thoughts to explore. Words to let go.
